New to CES: Access on the Go TechZone
    Sep 02, 2010 01:54:56

Get ready for the launch of CES’ newest TechZone, Access on the Go, co-sponsored by the International Digital Publishing Forum. This new TechZone is dedicated to technology that is changing the way consumers access content. The 2011 International CES, the world’s largest consumer technology tradeshow, is set to run January 6-9 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

With the steady increase in demand for on-the-go content, mobile devices that deliver music, movies, television, books and magazines have become more popular. Gone are the limits of gaining information from stationary forms of technology or even from just a cell phone. As consumers seek new ways to view, obtain and send content on the go, the Access on the Go TechZone will feature devices that are changing the way content is accessed.

The TechZone will showcase technology that promotes seamless connectivity and mobility, enabling users to communicate, access and send content from any location - in the car, at home or on-the-go. The Access on the Go TechZone will showcase the most innovative devices relating to eBooks, netbooks, smartbooks and tablets, including brands such as Handii and the Entourage eDGe.

According to CEA Market Research, the tablet category is experiencing astonishing growth including advancements in 3D, and represents 31 percent of the total U.S. consumer PC market, which includes desktops, notebooks and other tablet PCs.

"The addition of the Access on the Go Techzone to the specialized new technology market areas on the CES show floor really proves that CES is the top global destination for experiencing cutting-edge CE products, services and companies," said Karen Chupka, senior vice president, events and conferences, CEA. "This unique destination will showcase devices that are defining, enabling and changing the way content is accessed and viewed, and you will only see it at CES."

The Access on the Go TechZone is one of many hot product destinations on the 2011 International CES show floor. A full list of upcoming CES TechZones is on CESweb.org. Highlights include Connected Home Appliances, Electric Vehicles, FitnessTech, iLounge Pavilion, Location Based Services and Sustainable Planet.

The Access on the Go TechZone at the 2011 International CES is located in the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center. Companies interested in exhibiting should contact Shari Sally, Account Executive for CES, at ssally@CE.org.

CES posts 12 percent attendance growth
    May 11, 2010 01:24:07

The 2010 International CES announced that 126,641 industry professionals attended the tradeshow’s four-day run in Las Vegas, Nevada, January 7-10, a 12 percent increase in CES attendance from the previous year. An independent audit of the 2010 International CES, performed by Veris Consulting LLC, confirms CES’ status as the world’s largest consumer technology tradeshow and North America’s largest annual tradeshow of any kind.

Veris is certified by the Exhibition and Event Industry Audit Commission (EEIAC) to perform audits. As part of the Veris audit, each CES attendee is counted only once, and show size is calculated using only exhibit space actually sold, not hallways or bartered space.

“The CES was overflowing with innovative new products, and this audit proves that the 2010 International CES successfully attracted  top executives, retail buyers, content providers, entertainment executives, venture capitalists, engineers, government officials and media from every corner of the world,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), producer of CES. “CES is also a must-attend global event as evidenced by our more than 24,000 international attendees.”

2,500 global companies, including a record 330 first time exhibitors, unveiled an estimated 20,000 new technology products across 1.4 million net square feet of exhibit space. More, 24,364 international attendees from 136 countries helped increase global attendance at CES by more than eight percent over last year. The top ten countries represented at CES are Canada, Korea, China, Japan, Mexico, United Kingdom, Taiwan, France, Brazil and Germany.

Senior-level executives and business decision makers continue to conduct business at CES. According to the Veris audit, 45 percent of all attendees were senior level executives, director level and above, on par with last year. Presidents, CEOs and/or business owners made up 20 percent of attendees.  More than one third of all attendees are the final decision makers when it comes to new product purchases and partnerships within their organizations. More than 8,400 attendees represented companies with more than $500 million in total annual sales, nearly double the previous year.

The Veris audit also shows that CES attracts leaders from diverse business areas including entertainment, retail, education, engineering and venture capital. More than 12,000 retail buyers, 8,000 manufacturers and 3,000 engineers came to the 2010 CES along with more than 8,500 attendees from the software development/publishing, content development and entertainment industries, a 41 percent increase over last year.

Top government officials also attended the 2010 International CES. Policymakers from the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate, the Department of Commerce, Federal Communications Commission (FCC), U.S. Department of Transportation and the U.S. Department of the Treasury were all present.

Every year, influential media and analysts attend the CES to report on the cutting-edge technologies and trends in consumer technology. The 2010 CES drew more than 5,000 press, bloggers and financial and industry analysts.

The CES audit provides absolute verification of exhibition records, including direct on-site observation, examination of registration systems and testing of attendee records. Post-show analysis included direct confirmation sampling, reconciliation of attendance lists, elimination of duplicate names and verification of demographic data with the source of documentation.

Final audit numbers may differ from estimates given on-site due to additional badge pick-ups and badge reader reports. This audit complies with the industry standards for audits adopted by both the Exhibition and Event Industry Audit Commission (EEIAC) and the International Association of Exhibition and Events (IAEE).

The 2011 International CES is scheduled to run January 6-9 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Based on customer demand, space for the 2011 CES iLounge Pavilion has already doubled in size to 50,000 net square feet, with leading accessory innovators including Incipio Technologies, iSkin, Mophie and Scosche among the many companies slated to exhibit. New products for Apple’s iPad will join iPod, iPhone and Mac offerings in the Pavilion, which offers international media, retailers and vendors an unparalleled opportunity to preview the year’s most exciting new Apple-related technologies, all in one place.

“The inaugural iLounge Pavilion was a tremendous success and a major destination on the show floor for the more than 120,000 individuals who attended the 2010 International CES,” said Karen Chupka, senior vice president, events and conferences, CEA. “We received such positive response from exhibitors that we have already doubled the footprint of the iLounge Pavilion at the 2011 CES, making it the largest display of its kind in CES show history.”

“Everyone was impressed by the quality and number of exhibitors at the 2010 iLounge Pavilion,” said Jeremy Horwitz, Editor-in-Chief of iLounge and sponsor of the Pavilion. “Together, they thrilled visitors by debuting the most compelling lineup of new Apple-related accessories in years. With this incredible momentum, the iLounge Pavilion at the 2011 CES is guaranteed to be the center of the Apple third-party accessory and app universe - the definitive place to debut new iPod, iPhone, iPad, and Mac products to global exposure.”

Vendors praised both the exposure and opportunities offered by the Pavilion. “Due to the iLounge Pavilion at the 2010 CES,” said Wayne Ludlum, Vestalife Founder & CEO, “Vestalife was able to exceed our expectations and secure distribution for our award winning products in every country in the world.”

“The 2010 CES was a phenomenal show for Incipio,” said Andy Fathollahi, CEO, Incipio. “The response to the product line was overwhelming. We are looking forward to being part of the iLounge Pavilion again for the 2011 CES and excited to be tripling our booth space.”

Companies interested in exhibiting in the iLounge Pavilion at the 2011 International CES should contact Tira Gordon, senior account executive for CES, at tgordon@CE.org.

Panasonic 3D HDTV wins CNET Best of CES
    Jan 09, 2010 06:13:52

CNET's expert editors hit the deck running at the 2010 International CES to find the best, new products. They combed through thousands of devices to find the most innovative gadgets that will set the standard by which they will measure all other products in the coming year. In the end, they nominated 27 products in nine categories, plus a Best in Show winner. Also, from the top 27 products, the CNET audience watched online to see who earned People’s Voice winner.

2010 Best in Show: Panasonic VT25

David Katzmaier from CNET says: Sony, Samsung, LG, and Toshiba all announced 3D-compatible HDTVs at this year's CES, but Panasonic has made the most noise about the technology. The company began touting an extra dimension at last year's CES, and this year it has finally announced a shipping date for its first 3D plasma TV. Dubbed the VT25 series, it's expected to be released in the spring. It will be among the first 3D-capable flat-panel HDTVs available for sale in the U.S.

Avoid airport delays with Bags to Go
    Jan 09, 2010 12:58:38

Increased security makes airline travel a little more time consuming. According to most news reports and our own road warriors, the biggest lines are at ticket counters at the largest airports where customers are purchasing tickets, undergoing random baggage checks and checking luggage. Check with your travel agency, your selected airline or local airport about what to expect.

The Transportation Security Administration offers information on air travel security measures.

Purchase tickets ahead of time. You may be able to use e-tickets as long as you have proof of purchase, such as a printed confirmation, receipt or itinerary. Many airports have resumed curbside check-in. If you need to check luggage, allow yourself plenty of time. Carry valid photo identification. Prior to your flight, check with your airline or airport regarding recommended time to arrive at the airport.

Additionally, Bags to Go now services five major airlines, which means you can stay at CES longer and head to the airport later!  If you are flying Delta, Frontier, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, or US Airways, Bags to Go is a convenient service that has been implemented at The Venetian, the Luxor hotel and the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC).  Bags to Go enables you to check-in your luggage through to your final destination and also gives you the option of printing your boarding pass in advance.

To take advantage of this service you must check luggage three hours prior to your flight and have an e-ticket. All participating airlines charge a fee of $20 per person for this service. Southwest is the only participating airline that will allow each passenger to check two bags at no additional charge, other than the standard Bags to Go fee. All other airlines only allow one bag per person. Those checking more than one bag will be subject to additional fees. Please see your airline’s website for their baggage policies.

At The Venetian, Bags to Go is located on Level 1 of the meeting space, next to the Package Center. At the Luxor hotel, Bags to Go is located on the business center level, next to VIP check-in. At the LVCC, Bags to Go is located in the Grand Concourse, across from Central Hall 3.

For additional information, please call Bags to Go at 702-261-7700 or visit www.baggagecheckin.com.

In-vehicle technology revs up for the 2010 CES
    Dec 22, 2009 02:38:05

The 2010 International CES, the world's largest consumer technology tradeshow, will showcase the latest in-vehicle technology, including an opening keynote by Ford president and chief executive officer, Alan Mulally, with the 2010 Ford Taurus as the show's official car. The International CES returns to Las Vegas, January 7-10.

The 2010 CES will prominently feature the latest products and trends in in-vehicle technology including the Location Based Services (LBS) Spotlight, advancements in portable GPS, in-car video, wireless technology and integrated products for combining entertainment with navigation and security. Sales of in-vehicle technology are expected to top $9.3 billion in 2009.

"The 2010 CES is the can't miss event for car technology, with more than 380 in-vehicle electronics exhibitors in North Hall,” said Karen Chupka, senior vice president, event and conferences, CEA. “Innovations abound within the in-vehicle technology space at CES."

Ford's Mulally will deliver his keynote address at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 7, 2010, in the Hilton Center. CES' major in-vehicle electronics exhibitors include: Aamp of America, Directed Electronics, Dual Electronics Corporation, GM's Onstar, InstallerNet Inc., Kenwood USA, Kia Motors, Metra, Mitek, Pioneer and Scosche. The North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) will be home to in-vehicle electronics and house the majority of mobile exhibitors.

The 2010 CES will feature more than 20 TechZones. Automotive retailers, installers and manufacturers will want to check out:
  • Mobile DTV: The Open Mobile Video Coalition will sponsor the CES Mobile DTV Tech Zone in the central hall of the LVCC.  Consumer electronics retailers and manufacturers are invited to see the latest consumer devices that will enable viewers to watch their favorite live local and national TV programs wherever they are -- on portable DTVs, mobile phones, personal media players, portable computers, in-car screens and other devices.
  • Safe Driver, located within the LBS Spotlight: With the increasing public focus on distracted driving, this TechZone is an amazing opportunity to see new technologies that empower drivers to use their in-vehicle electronics in a safe and responsible way. The Safe Driver Techzone will feature products that will assist in auto collision avoidance, land drift assistance, parking, speed monitoring, hands-free, text-to-voice, driver drowsiness detection and much more.

The 2010 International CES includes the following in-vehicle technology conference sessions:

  • Broadband in Your Car: Imagine watching YouTube videos on your laptop or updating your Facebook page while being driven to the airport. That's the promise of the mobile Wi-Fi systems Ford, GM and Chrysler are offering. How quickly will cars become Internet-enabled, and what are the barriers to adoption? And where do TV-to-car services fit in?
  • Drivers, Consumer Electronics, and Highway Safety: How Can Technology Help: Growing public attention is being paid to the relationship between safe driving and in-vehicle electronics. Come hear about innovative companies and technologies that empower drivers to use their in-vehicle electronics in a safe and responsible way.
  • Driving Connected: Built-in, Brought-in or Beamed-in - Developing Cars that Don't Crash and Devices that Don't Distract: Connected automobiles are here! This cross-industry panel will present innovations in information, entertainment and safety while revealing the collaborative product development, deployment and integration of automotive and consumer electronics. Automakers, OEMs and the aftermarket can make the difference between built-in profits and reverse-engineered costs to deliver consumer satisfaction.
  • GPS Navigation: Whats Down the Road: The explosion of GPS-enabled navigation products in recent years has produced a variety of options -- from hand-held and portable devices to in-dash vehicle systems to cell phones with built-in navigation functions. Which form factor is leading the pack today? Which will prevail three years from now?
  • Location-Based Services: The Next Social Networking Frontier: Location-based services that let you pinpoint the whereabouts of friends and family members on a cell phone have yet to go mainstream. Will they break out, and if so, when? LBS pioneers explore the market potential for services such as AT&T's FamilyMaps and address pressing social questions that come with the territory.
  • New Opportunities for Communications to the Vehicle: The next generation of wireless data services and the introduction of dedicated short range communications (DSRC) will introduce new opportunities for Vehicle-to-Vehicle, and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure applications. This session will explore what to expect in the next few years, and explore different industry blueprints and research roadmaps, such as the IntelliDrive initiative.
